Its been a crazy busy couple of months, what with Christmas, Australia Day, work and school holidays. Add to that, a visit from my Father, over from London, a couple of births and the sudden death of an old friend, it's been a bit of an emotional roller coaster.

I've managed to keep quite quiet for a while, which for those who know me know that keeping my gob shut for more than 10 minutes is a stretch. However, to replace my noise, I'm now completely hooked on instagram.

Addicted, well and truly. Probably better to replace my noisy noise with visual for a while!

Here's some of the nicer things that have happened over the last fortnight or so.... plus a video for KG of her proxy dog Stan.

Oh my gosh, look what I found downstairs at Koskelas pop up shop in Potts Point.....

In the New Year, in Koskelas all new and full on AMAZING space, there will be an overload of astronauts, circles, geometrics and 3 metre long screen prints.
All the big prints are being beautifully framed by my local framer, Warren who has hand massaged beeswax into metres of certified Australian wood and also by Ryan at United Measures who is making the Fluro splined frames for the posters.
I am being thoroughly spoilt and having the time of my life.

I love my job.

Those cushions are made by PonyRider, the over sized ones are fantastic.

I had a plum job a while back with NRMA insurance, working with the fashion journalist Melissa Hoyer. I had to screen print a laptop cover for Melissa using the NRMA blue as a base and represent her lifestyle in some way - hectic is the only way to sum it up.
You can see the viral campaign to go with the promotion for portable contents insurance here with a surfboard for Hoppo and a necklace for Charlotte Dawson.
Sadly (or luckily - I need a haircut!) there's not one of Melissa and I - wasn't enough space in the studio for a film crew.
That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
So it went from this to the pics below.
The first spray layer was nerve wracking, I ended up printing it onto heavy duty stickered vinyl.

Yesterday I spent the day at my silkscreen suppliers utilising their large vacuum table and their cool surroundings. Managed to get started on my A0 prints.

There's something to be said for working inside, on a day when it was over 30C outside.

Spring has definitely sprung and I've found fluro pink ink in some strange places.

Today however, you'll be finding me languishing in the local pool.

Exhibition Starts

I've got a rather large exhibition coming up in Sydney, in January which I'm preparing for. I'm working with an amazing company, full of inspiring, talented and of course, well dressed people, details to follow shortly. Of the exhibition and my hosts, that is, not on what they're wearing.

Some pictures, in the meantime, of some of the roughs I'm working on.

There's will be 15 Astronaut themed posters (surprise, eh!) in editions of 50 and 15 very large abstract mono prints. Plus, to boot, some homewares - bedlinen, cushion covers and a few other special things if Lady Time is kind to me.

My arms ache already and I'm not yet halfway through printing the posters.

I'm really lucky to have got Ryan from United Measures doing the vast bulk of my framing - nothing like some special fluro splines!

I used to write to Jimmy Saville on his show 'Jim'll Fix It', every couple of months, much like many of my friends, always with the tiniest bit of hope that our dream would be made to come true......"Dear Jimmy, will you fix it for me to go to space/ get a new sister, because my one is annoying/ ride a racehorse."

I never got a reply, but eventually, I managed to achieve one of my wishes (ride is probably overstating a claim, fall off multiple times at speed is probably truer), plus my sister and I eventually decided we actually liked one another a lot.

Space has yet to be tucked into my pocket.

RIP Jimmy, you were a huge inspiration to me and always gave off the impression of being an all round good guy.

I was hugely chuffed to take part in the exhibition to celebrate Sir Peter Cooks 75th birthday. One of the founders of Archigram, I remember seeing their work in different places when I was growing up and then was reintroduced recently by my friends Sandi and Amy who have eyes for the good stuff.

Titled, '75 Peters', the exhibition will contain 75 portraits by 75 International illustrators and artists and will be held in Brisbane, in association with the Institute of Modern Art and then London on the occasion of Iconic British Architect Sir Peter Cook's 75th brithday.

The brief was to produce a portrait of Sir Peter and each artwork will be auctioned with proceeds donated to the charity Architecture for Humanity.

The exhibition opens in Brisbane on 26th October.

I've been flexing my printing arms so much in the past three week that the only breaks I've been taking is the lunch time conversation with the postman and then the subsequent ten minutes on the internet paying the never ending bills he seems to deliver. It was with joy today that I took hold of the latest Jacky Winter promo, a glossy magazine with the cover designed by the gentleman whom is Timba Smitts, then spent the next ten minutes looking through a feast of good stuff.

"Because of the absence of gravity, fuels burning in space behave very differently than they do on Earth. In this image, a 3-millimeter diameter droplet of heptane fuel burns in microgravity, producing soot. When a bright, uniform backlight is placed behind the droplet and flame and recorded by a video camera, the soot appears as a dark cloud. Image processing techniques can then quantify the soot concentration at each point in the image. On the International Space Station, the Flame Extinguishing Experiment examines the combustion of such liquid fuel droplets.

This colorized gray-scale image is a composite of the individual video frames of the backlit fuel droplet. The bright yellow structure in the middle is the path of the droplet, which becomes smaller as it burns. Initial soot structures (in green) tend to form near the liquid fuel. These come together into larger and larger particles which ultimately spiral out of the flame zone in long, twisting streamers. "

Things I've learnt this week:

Putting a staple through a finger nail is rather uncomfortable, especially when I'd only stapled through 20 notebooks and I had another 180 to do whilst feeling my pulse through a nail bed.

No blood on these ones.

Other things I've learnt is that Iced Magic isn't a good substitute for jam on toast, that Doggleganger is the best and most addictive website found this week (my perfect dog pairings are Staffies or Mastiff puppies, go figure) and finally, that Shane Warne is kinda funny looking.

Last month, I had the immense joy of working with Marcela for the first time, I think we were both surprised

how much of a great time we had, just the two of us, even though it was very close to being an all nighter in a haunted photographic studio, and we hadn't taken any food. Recipe for disaster with me involved. Especially the food bit.

We had just under 8 hours to chalk up the set for the 2011 Fashion Targets Breast Cancer campaign.

It was a truly beautiful job with rather lovely people on both sides of the camera lens.

An honour to be involved.

There's a 3metre long one too which I'm very happy with, even though I have yet to see it in its full glory.... my print table wasn't quite long enough so I had to print in sections and roll it, so I haven't seen it in its entirety.

I covet this table amongst many of the other beautiful pieces they design and make.

Snippets of a couple of the very large silkscreen prints I've done for Tom and Spencer of CraftDesignRealisation Furniture in Waterloo. Beautiful handmade furniture, Al and I went to the show room last week and came out with a 20 point wish list.

The prints are off to the framers this morning, I'm pretty pleased with them and am really looking forward to seeing them on the walls.

The biggest one so far is 2.5 metres wide, my arms got a work out last week, just cleaning them off.

Anyone who knows me well, knows how much I like a Nanna nap, even if the whole idea of just 15 minutes passes me by (at least an hour!). I'm especially liking this, a micro environment for power naps.

My good friend Heath has got some posters up at Print Process, a division of Blanka, to quote him as he is way more eloquent than I...

A love of the design and iconography of film posters and a fascination with alternate histories, has resulted in this “hypothetical” collection of Lost Films. The basic premise of this project is that these films were either unmade, unfinished or somehow lost before getting a cinema release. The finer details of each film – casting, soundtrack and indeed plot – is for the viewer to fill in.

Featured in this collection is Jean Luc Godard’s “The Faint Rebellion”, Dennis Hopper’s”Pop”, Milos Foreman’s “The Amputees of Andromeda”, Melvin Van Peeble’s “Jazz Wizard”, Michalangeo Antonioni’s “The New Wonder Hallucinogenic” and Ingmar Bergman’s “Dancing In The Nylon Wildflowers”.

The complete set of screenprints I did for the Design Files last week is up as free downloadable wallpaper via my website (low res 72dpi). Its also available as high res A4 sized downloadable jpegs via here to raise funds for the Queensland floods, which have devastated the region.

Anyone roaming around Sydney these past couple of days could not have failed to see the amazing artwork about town all thanks to Marcela.

Yesterday, Al, Milan and I went for breakfast in Annandale and sat under a Marce poster of the Domain, it was a fantastic experience!

Marce, I'm going to get excited every time I see a bus pass with your drawing on it or walk down George street and see all those cockatoo banners.

I am very honoured to be guest posting on the Design Files next week ... for the week.
I feel more than slightly nauseous about the prospect, especially as there are photographs of my fat arms lurking about here and there for those five days... be warned, they're not pretty. Better than the full naked ones I guess though.
Even a friend said "Jeez, how much weight does the camera put on? It just went to your wrists."

I had an anxiety dream about it last night where Kate Gibb and Lisa Jones were running up and down the street shouting 'Jennifer! Jennifer!' and Alistair and Stanley had morphed into one person.
And I still found him attractive.

This made me smile, so I printed it as a poster.

Ahh the internet.... a veritable feast of eye candy and direction from pals whom I've only ever met 'virtually'.
I have a bit of a blank headspace moment and within hours the very incredible Amy and Sandi have remedied any lack of inspiration I have.
